MICRODERMABRASION
FOR FACE OR BODY
Microdermabrasion is a skin-care technique which works
on the removal of dead skin cells of the face and body.
Microdermabrasion is sometimes called a "lunchtime peel".
Most of the celebrities in Hollywood are making use of
microdermabrasion for their face and body. Microdermabrasion
is a strong facial peeling, but not as strong as TCA chemical
peeling. It is not invasive and a perfect way to improve
the skin of the face and the body.
Microdermabrasion is an effective method and it allows
you to get back to your daily routine immediately after
treatment.
However using a sunblock is necessary for two days after
the treatment and you should also avoid the sun during
those two days.
Look for a skin practioner who is highly qualified and
experienced in working with Microdermabrasion for facials
and/or body.
How
does Microdermabrasion work?
The handset is placed on to the skin of the face or body
and a microscopic flow of crystals is directed onto the
surface of the skin. The speed of the crystals, together
with their abrasive nature, gently removes the epidermal
cells layer by layer. Used crystals and dead skin cells
are drawn away through the vacuum action. This
action allows for the controlled exfoliation of the stratum
corneum allowing a smoother fresher skin to emerge and
correcting surface irregularities.
The
abrasion and vacuum action combined stimulate the micro-circulation
(blood supply) to the skin's surface, which enhances the
provision of nutrients necessary for the stimulation of
fibroblasts for collagen regeneration.
What are the benefits of Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion gives immediate visible results! By
performing a gentle skin exfoliation, it successfully
treats a wide range of skin problems of both the face
and body. Even after the first treatment, the skin of
the face feels smooth and fresh. The
treatment is suitable for all skin types and is particularly
effective in:
- Reducing
moderate early ageing signs of lines and wrinkles
overall rejuvenation for aged skin.
- Provides
stimulation of fibroblasts for collagen reproduction
and rejuvenation of the overall skin with improved tone,
elasticity and muscle tone.
- Enhances
penetration of approved topical actives after treatment.
-
Perfect for congested skin with open pores, comedones
and acne prone skin - deeper exfoliation can significantly
help thickened, blemished facial skin and acne scarring*.
- It
is also extremely effective for sun-damaged skin and
could reduce mild pigment irregularities (hyperpigmentation)
in the face.
Will
Microdermabrasion reduce or prevent lines and wrinkles?
Regular exfoliation of the face will remove dead skin cells
allowing a more radiant and youthful skin to emerge. Just
like physical fitness, our skin needs an exercise
programme to keep it young and healthy. Microdermabrasion,
through regular stimulation to the microcirculation, aids
in the production of new collagen and elastin formation
in the face. If an adequate facial exfoliation programme
is followed at an early age, it can help the skin retain
its youthful appearance longer.
Is Microdermabrasion suitable for
acne prone skin of the face?
Acne is an inflammatory eruption that occurs in and around
the sebaceous glands of the face, neck and back. It is caused
by overactive sebaceous glands, hormonal activity and pore
blockage.
With
acne prone skin, dead cells build up around the hair follicles,
they interfere with the natural drainage of oil, causing
the hair follicle to clog and fill. The resulting blockage
can lead to several problems, including comedones and congestion.
Regular facial treatments with Microdermabrasion will help
remove the bond holding together the excessive build-up
of dead cells, removing blockages, cleansing the pores of
the face, which allows the skin to rid itself of the excessive
oils naturally. You
will notice significant results as the treatments reduce
the coenocytes that are a contributing factor to the development
of comedones, blackheads and whiteheads. The reduction of
excess coenocytes also refines the thick, rough texture,
associated with oily skin of the face. It can also substantially
reduce surface sebum.
Can Microdermabrasion help with my
acne scarring of the face?
In a way, yes it can. With acne scarring a small portion
of the deep germinative layer is damaged leaving it full
of fibrous scar tissue. The scar is depressed, as healthy
tissue destruction is more in-depth. Regular treatments
of the face with the Microdermabrasion will result in a
smoother skin and help create a 'blended' effect of the
surrounding scar tissue making the scar tissue less noticeable.
However, it is wise not to expect too much of Microdermabrasion
treatments with acne scars as most of the acne scars are
toot deep to treat only with Microdermabrasion. In case
the scars aar too deep, other methods like the Bio Melt
Method will be necessary. In my acne and acne-scar book
I will also
give you solutions to work on the acne scars at home. Ice
pick type acne scars in the face will not be improved by
the use of Microdermabrasion, but regular treatment will
have an overall improvement in the quality of the skin.
Can Microdermabrasion help my skin
which is damaged by the sun?
Yes it will. When the skin of the face is exposed to excessive
sunlight, a natural response of the upper-layers of the
skin is to become thicker to protect the sub-layers. This
may result in slower shedding of the dead skin cells producing
thickened, dry, and rough skin. Abnormal cell division is
also seen in hyper-keratotic disorders e.g. overgrowth of
the stratum corneum. Excessively dry rough skin of the face
and body is a condition that affects many people it appears
to be the result of abnormal desquamation.
A
course of Microdermabrasion treatments can achieve beneficial
results in the treatment of sun-damaged skin and uneven
skin tone of face and body. Microdermabrasion is an ideal
choice as it allows a gentle approach in treating all skin
colours and all skin types. Regular treatment can help correct
the ill functioning epidermis of face and body to become
better organised, thicker, and the horny layer on the surface
to reproduce in a more regular way. Even after the very
first treatment, your skin of the face will look noticeably
fresher and smoother and more radiant.
Can I be treated with Microdermabrasion
if I have dark skin?
Microdermabrasion can be used effectively on dark skin.
Hyperpigmentation can be reduced by microdermabrasion (in
some cases TCA chemical peeling might be more effective*).
Most obvious causes of pigmentation are use of oral birth
control pills, hormone replacement therapy, pregnancy or
interaction with certain medications. Repeated sun exposure
or over exposure also plays a part, as does inflammation
or trauma caused to the skin. Certain chemicals found in
perfumes etc. can also result in pigmentation marks occurring.
Regular treatment with Microdermabrasion will encourage
the unwanted pigment move up through the epidermal layers
and be exfoliated. As no chemicals are used, Microdermabrasion
makes the perfect choice for treating all skin colours.
* Most of the time I use for the face TCA peeling of 15%
with dark skin. With some people who have had more TCA chemical
peels already, I use TCA chemical peeling of 20% on the
face. I never use TCA chemical peelings on the body of the
dark skin.
Will facial scrubs provide the same
results?
Facial scrubs do not have the same stimulation effects on
the skin as Microdermabrasion.
Can Microdermabrasion be used on any
other area of the body?
Yes, Microdermabrasion is perfect for improving the skin
tone on any area of skin; especially skin that displays
dryness or oily skin with pimples. Many clients are benefiting
from Microdermabrasion to treat oily or pimply skin on the
back. Microdermabrasion is also perfect as an all over body
exfoliation for light as well as dark skin.
