Why I Decided To Quit Sugar Once And For All, And What Changes I Have Experienced Since.
3 months ago I decided to quit sugar for good. That's right, sugar. Not just donuts, candy, ice-cream, but anything that breaks down as sugar such as bread, rice, pasta, most fruits, potatoes, sweet potatoes!
I had tried everything to solve my persistent skin problems. I had cut out dairy, gluten, alcohol, I drank tonnes of filtered water, I exercised daily and I used all organic skin products. Nothing worked. I felt frustrated, angry and out of ideas.
I had been researching like a crazy person for some information in fixing my acne and melasma. I came across an article about candida, which is a yeast that lives in our intestines. It lives in each of us and is part of our bacteria - however, this yeast can grow out of control and cause many problems in the body, acne and melasma, being two of them. The causes for this overgrowth range from anti-biotic use, high sugar diets, refined carbohydrate diets, over consumption of alcohol, hormonal birth control and pregnancy. This fierce yeast can cause serious inflammation in our bodies, resulting in digestive problems, allergies. skin problems and even auto-immune conditions. Yeast thrives off sugar, allowing it to live happily in your gut. After reading about this, I took it upon myself to try the 'Anti-candida diet'. This diet is basically a NO-SUGAR diet. You have to stick to it for at least a month, along with taking natural anti-fungal medication to treat the overgrowth. I stuck to this diet for a month, no alcohol, no caffeine, no fruit (except blueberries - they are really low sugar!), and no potatoes or starchy carbohydrates of any sort. Now, I bet you're wondering how I felt .. Well let me tell you. I felt PHENOMENAL.
MY ENERGY INCREASED, MY SKIN WAS LOOKING BETTER THAN EVER, MY DIGESTION IMPROVED, MY PERIODS BECAME LIGHTER AND MY PMS SYMPTOMS BASICALLY DISSIPATED.
To top it off, I actually looked better. I was toning up quicker from doing exactly the same exercise routines I had been doing for months. My skin just stopped breaking out, and the remaining acne healed much quicker than previously. I was waking up looking fresh, as apposed to waking up looking groggy and swollen. I couldn't believe how much quitting sugar had changed me. I honestly couldn't recommend this quitting sugar malarkey more. It was a life changer for me.
I actually made the mistake of slipping up, and I had a weekend of over-indulging when me and my boyfriend CJ went away for the weekend. My symptoms returned, new pimples popped up, I looked tired, I felt groggy and the brain fog re-appeared.
That was enough for me to feel confident that a sugar free diet was the right road for me.
THE DIET IS NOT FOREVER, MANY PEOPLE CURE THEIR CANDIDA AND ARE ABLE TO EAT SUGAR AGAIN, BUT IN MODERATION OF COURSE, AND THEY DO NOT SEE A RELAPSE OF THEIR SYMPTOMS.

Sugar and carbohydrate cravings; acne; digestive problems; allergies; eczema; rosacea; melasma; psorisis; fatigue; PMS; energy drops between meals; depression; hanger; asthma; nail fungus; white coating on tongue; itchy anus; jock itch; fungal skin problems; weight gain.
After several months on the diet, and sticking to it vigorously, the candida will eventually die, and you will be able to eat the things you long for - in moderation. You can't suddenly start scoffing down 10 donuts in a celebratory victory meal. You've got to remember that the yeast can come back as quick as it left. So be careful.
My advice is, to try this diet for at least 2 weeks. See how you feel, how you look, how your energy levels change and once you feel the benefit, you will probably never look at sugar the same way again.
